Question 6

How have your skills developed from the preliminary task?

When we filmed our preliminary task, we only had 3 things to things about (shot reverse shot, 180 degree rule and continuity) so we didn't have to focus on the actual visual and the kind of experience that an audience would get from watching it as it was just to show our basic skills. As this was our first time in filming a thing that used these skills there were very 'shakey' and new to us, so when we started to film our opening, we had developed these skills to a point that we felt comfortable enough to do it without any problem. We also used a wider range of shots in order to get the best effect for the audience, and camera movement was also a big thing to think about whilst filming out opening. The edits (such as cuts and colour changes), sounds and titles that were added in to the opening helped us to develop skills, as we had to think about how it would work as a whole piece, whilst when we were filming our preliminary task the shots were very jumpy and didn't have a 'flow' to them, whereas our opening now flows, however when we first edited our opening it was jumpy but we learnt skills of how to disguise and also to make it slower and more of a flow rather than jumping. By learning the basic skills when doing the preliminary it helped us think more carefully about how the camera was, the shot we were using and whether they worked or not, which allowed us to make a better and more successful opening.

Preliminary task

As you can see from our preliminary task, the shots aren't steady and aren't as appealing to an audience, however they demonstrate the basic skills. In contrast our final opening demonstrates better skills of shots, editing, mise en scene and all help to appeal to an audience.
